Mysteries of the megaliths:

Megaliths are one of the most fascinating ancient structures that can still be seen today. They are found all over the world and were built by ancient civilizations for unknown purposes. But they all share a common characteristic: huge stone blocks, sometimes weighing up to 50 tons or more, which have been shaped and fitted together so precisely that not even a knife blade can fit between them.

Who could possibly make these cuts? We’ll explore the world of megaliths, their purpose, and how they were made, and hopefully, along the way, you’ll be able to answer your own questions!

The megaliths are found throughout Europe, Asia, North America, and South America. The word “megalith” has Greek origins; it means “giant rock”. Some of the most famous (and largest) megaliths can be found in France’s Brittany district, where there is a large concentration of these ancient structures. If you travel around Brittany, you will come across menhirs (standing stones), dolmens (table-stones), and cromlechs (ancient stone circles).

Some megaliths can be found in the Italian peninsula too. They are scattered all over Sardinia, Sicily, and other regions of Southern Italy. Sardinia has about 3000 dolmens spread over the whole island, of which 6000 remain. Even though they are called “dolmen”, these large stones have been shaped and fitted together so precisely that not even a knife blade can fit between them.

Mysteries of the megaliths - Megaliths: The unknowns - What could possibly make this cuts?In North America, megaliths can be found in places like Kentucky (Adam’s Calendar), Florida (Coral Castle), Wisconsin (Pettico Wick mound), and Ohio. One of the most famous megaliths in North America can be found in western New York state, near Chautauqua Lake. This is the largest collection of ancient stone structures ever discovered on American territory, built by a culture that has not yet been identified.

What was the purpose of these megaliths?

In reality, we have no idea. Theories ranging from the practical to the bizarre exist, but so far there is no agreement as to their true purpose or how they were made. Some researchers believe that the huge stone blocks used in building them were shaped by a superior civilization using advanced technology not possessed by our ancestors.

Others believe that the ancients were nothing more than primitive people who could not possibly have shaped such enormous stones, and even lift them into place. It would be like asking a person from the twenty-first century to build a skyscraper with only a hammer and a chisel! Some believe that aliens built these megaliths as astronomical observatories.
