Fell in love with an alien

Last night, I fell in love with an alien.

And it was the most wonderful thing that has ever happened to me.

There I was, a simple girl from a small town, who went on a trip to a new city and somehow got stuck in an alleyway at midnight with no idea of where I was going. Then this dark-haired gorgeous man came out of nowhere and changed my entire life for the better.

It all started when he seemed to emerge from the shadows just beside me as if they were his second home. In fact, he looked so much like one of those Gothic models that prance about by the city buildings every sunrise that I thought maybe he *was* one of them. His beauty was unlike anything I had ever seen.

“Are you alright?” he asked me in a voice like gravel, but it didn’t make the question any less sincere and I could tell that he genuinely cared about me.

“I think so,” I told him. “It’s just… where am I?” The streets were empty and dark, and while there were street signs nearby, they all said different things that didn’t help me at all.

He lifted his chin for a moment before realizing that it wouldn’t help me see better where we were, then pointed down the alleyway beside us. “You’re here.”

My answer seemed to puzzle him because he gave me a strange look before stating: “… Yes. You’re here. In this city. A place where people live.”

I still didn’t understand, but he seemed to know what I meant and tried to explain.

“There is a map of the world ceiling up in your planet’s sky, correct?”

That was true enough – my planet had a vast hologram that could show us exactly where we were looking at any time with clockwork precision without requiring any power from us whatsoever. It required very little maintenance as well, which was paid for by taxes coming from the citizens, so it wasn’t a problem for us to use it as often as we liked since nobody ever complained about having to pay them.       “Yes… But how do you…”

“On my planet, we have a very similar system. Our own mapping software in the sky is powered by our sun’s rays, which comes down to us in an almost infinite stream of energy when shone through the right lens.”

I was literally stunned speechless.. How could this man be speaking of astrological viewing systems when he looked like he knew more about technology than any human being on my world? But there were no tubes or wires coming from him with that shimmering light that I had seen so frequently emanating from electronics on my planet. Instead, it just seemed to come out naturally from beneath his skin, until it drifted off into nothingness around him with all the sparks. His visage was wild and mysterious at once like he was some sort of god or Nature’s gift I had never realized would come to me.

“What are you?” I asked him in half-disbelief, completely star-struck by his presence. He didn’t answer at first but instead turned away with an almost disappointed look on his face. But when he looked back, it was with a soft smile that made my heart skip many beats all at once.

“I don’t know the words for what I am,” he admitted to me. “But there is one word you have that comes closest.”

His eyes were so full of feeling that they seemed to shine brighter than before as soon as those words escaped from his throat. With every syllable uttered, I felt my heart get ready to burst at the seams until it did.

“You love me,” he said with a certain wonder in his voice, almost like he wasn’t used to hearing that word for himself. But when I nodded in agreement, everything seemed to change around us. It didn’t feel like we were still on Earth anymore even though I was fairly positive that had been the case only moments before. Everything just seemed different somehow, but more along the lines of how I always imagined outer space would be if you could travel through it faster than the speed of light while being surrounded by pinpoints of stars all about you without burning up on re-entry into your home planet’s atmosphere.

Even though none of this was scientifically possible where I came from, it felt perfectly solid and real in a way that everything heretofore had not. And this man… Whatever he was… Was standing right beside me as we both looked up at the sky together to see the stars shimmering down on us like little diamonds falling from unknown heaven.

“Do you want to go home?” he asked me softly, sounding almost hesitant about what my answer might be. How could I say no? This is what I always wanted – more than anything else – even if it wasn’t scientifically possible for somebody from Earth to experience such a thing.      So, I nodded once before following him into his ship without another word or second of hesitation.
